Mark Farina

Mark Farina - House Of Om release party - The Mezzanine

Transversing the personality void merch hallway you really don’t expect too much from the mezzanine. But Saturday night it felt as if, for one enigmatic night, it had transcended itself and became a scene from inside the House Of Om.

Easter type pastels and reds flood the walls and tempt eager dancers, gradually changing patterns and tempo. Sound and light, naturally, dance a delicate tango. In the same style as the House Of Om cover art, two banners straddle the free space on either side above the deejay, contained in what resembles a pen.

Flowing, silky white colored fabrics dance in the air conditioner convections and bask in the dim light, them selves adding to the visual textures of the evening. Everything from the floor to the ceiling, stacks to the stage, seems to be in collusion with the music.

As Mark Farina shows his face to the crowd(at one o’clock in the a.m.), framed by two mixers, his house monkey minions outpace the speakers and let him know just how excited they are that he’s there. In their ears, in their eyes, as the focal point of their well planned and articulated evenings. The sea of hands in the air is a violent one, swaying this way and that. They were there do dance their asses off. And any good deejay, let alone a king in his castle, would surely prefer to deliver the goods.

In between cutting up songs Farina found time in his busy schedule to take shots with the Om entourage, who were all onstage and open bar, out celebrating the fruits of ridiculously hard work. All the while deep and long, the bass poured itself thicker and thicker as the night moved further. Jazzy cuts and simple, flowing lyrics blend into the crowd.
